VW Crafter Conversions

The newest edition to our GT600 range is the Volkswagen Crafter. As a company who has specialised in VW T5 and T6 conversions for the majority of our 16 years in business, the next logical step was a VW Crafter motorhome. It has all the practicality and quality that we had put into our Peugeot Boxer GT600, and the prestige and brand loyalty of Volkswagen. MAN is the commercial arm of VW and offers a rebadged Crafter as the MAN TGE. With the exception of the badge and price, they are identical. Definitely worth considering for a saving of several thousand £.

Vehicle Purchase
We are willing to convert a pre-purchased Crafter, or order you a brand new van. It would be difficult to list the specification of the Crafter here, as VW's vehicles can be built to whatever specification you want.

The vehicle we purchased for our own motorhome, and the specification we would recommend is the VW Crafter 140 LWB 140bhp Trendline with Business Pack upgrade. This provides the perfect high spec vehicle in which to convert into a luxury Celtic Motorhomes GT680.

The other alternative if you are not attached to the VW badge is purchasing a MAN through us. We are able to source these vehicles for you and have a high spec van as standard through MAN.

Vehicle DimensionsLength: 6.80m (22.3ft) Width: Unladen weight: Anticipated payload: The difficulty with the VW Crafter is the weight of the vehicle. The base vehicle before conversion is much heavier than other vans used for motorhomes, such as the Peugeot Boxer. To get the payload necessary to use a Crafter as a motorhome, it will need to be up-plated to 4 tonne. This will require a C1 license to be able to drive, which does add some difficulties for anyone who does not have that license as standard.

Bed Size and ConfigurationThis largely depends on a number of factors such as bed height and layout choice. Firstly, the higher the bed is build, the narrower the van becomes and thus the narrower the bed becomes. Our demo van which could be seen on our stand at the NEC, and is what is photographed throughout this website, has a fixed bed of approximately 6ft 3 by 5ft9. The Crafter's extra length means that sleeping lengthways in the vehicle is the default, and due to the narrow nature of the vehicle, it becomes very difficult to sleep transverse. In MWB Crafters, you need to sleep transverse to prevent the bed encroaching into the vehicle too much, so side pods mounted to the vehicle are the answer to this, which we will be building in the foreseeable future. As for bed height, this can be built for a fixed bed at almost any height within the van (within reason) and can be a good way of utilising the extra length of the vehicle to build a garage/storge area.
-
Layout OptionsOur standard layout that we used for our demo van was a fixed bed layout. This provides you with a large bed area with plenty of room to sleep on. It also creates a garage area underneath for copious amounts of storage. This fixed bed can be built at virtually any height in the vehicle, and can be made to suit your needs. Another option available is a twin single beds layout. This limits the storage in the van due to the lack of garage underneath, but provides a two single beds with a walkway in between.
-
HeatingWe have usually fitted a diesel heater in our crafter conversions, but the availability of a well designed 30 lt gas tank means we can easily fit a cheaper gas heater.

InsulationOur vehicles come winterised as standard. We use multiple layers of insulation to ensure that the motorhome is usable all-year round. We use high quality foam-foil insulation with a thick insulation layer over the top. This coupled with the carpeted panels and the van's walls creates a comfortable and warm motorhome.

Warranty and ServicingWe offer a 2 year warranty on all our work, but make sure to look after our customers if something ever goes wrong in the future.
